For the Dry Rub:
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper optional
For the Brisket:
- 4 –5 lbs beef brisket
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup barbecue sauce optional, for a BBQ-style brisket
- 1 medium onion sliced
- 4 garlic cloves minced
Prepare the Brisket:
In a small bowl, mix together all the dry rub ingredients.
Pat the brisket dry with paper towels. Rub the spice mixture generously all over the brisket. Let it rest for 30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Sear the Brisket (Optional):
Slow Cooker Method:
Place the sliced onions and minced garlic at the bottom of the slow cooker.
Place the brisket on top, fat side up.
Pour the beef broth and barbecue sauce (if using) over the brisket.
Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours, or until the brisket is tender and easily pulls apart.
Oven Method:
Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
Place the brisket in a large roasting pan with the onions and garlic.
Pour the beef broth and barbecue sauce (if using) over the brisket. Cover tightly with aluminum foil.
Bake for 4–5 hours, checking occasionally to ensure there’s enough liquid. Add more broth if needed.
