Ingredients
  

  • - 1 ½ pounds ground beef or a mix of beef and pork
  • - 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • - ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • - ½ cup marinara sauce plus extra for topping
  • - 1 egg
  • - 1 small onion finely diced
  • - 2 cloves garlic minced
  • - 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • - 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • - 1 teaspoon salt
  • - ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • - ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • - 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese for topping

Instructions
 

  • - Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a loaf pan.
  • - In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, marinara sauce, egg, onion, garlic, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  • - Mix until well combined, then shape into a loaf and place in the prepared pan.
  • - Bake for 45 minutes, then spread extra marinara sauce over the top and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  • - Bake for another 15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  • - Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
