- - 1 ½ pounds ground beef or a mix of beef and pork
- - 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
- - ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- - ½ cup marinara sauce plus extra for topping
- - 1 egg
- - 1 small onion finely diced
- - 2 cloves garlic minced
- - 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- - 1 teaspoon dried basil
- - 1 teaspoon salt
- - ½ teaspoon black pepper
- - ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
- - 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese for topping
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, marinara sauce, egg, onion, garlic, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
- Mix until well combined, then shape into a loaf and place in the prepared pan.
- Bake for 45 minutes, then spread extra marinara sauce over the top and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
- Bake for another 15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
